What is BNYS?

Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yoga Science (BNYS) is a four and a half year undergraduate programme which makes the students gain more information and be familiar with Naturopathy. So what is Naturopathy? It is a branch of science which focuses on the healing ability of oneself. Through Naturopathy, an individual can learn about self clearing measures for the body without using external factors such as medicines or internal factors such as hormonal, immune, nervous and excretory systems.

Students who wish to learn about the medicinal practice in a non-traditional way can opt for this degree. However, if the candidates fail to meet the eligibility of qualifying 10+2 (or equivalent) examination, then they can opt for a 1 year certificate program called “Treatment Attendant Training Course” from The National Institute of Naturopathy, Pune. The eligibility for this course is 10th standard pass.

Types of BNYS

Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yoga Sciences (BNYS) is an undergraduate degree for students who have just completed their 10+2 or meet the required eligibility criteria as specified by the various institutes which offer this degree. Within the four years of the undergraduate degree, the student will be able to choose their preferred specialization. For better career opportunities in the future, the students will have to to study the undergraduate degree and obtain specialization.

BNYS Eligibility

For admissions into the BNYS courses offered by various institutions, the students will have to meet certain criteria. The eligibility criteria prescribed below is general and there may be variations as per the institute that the student is applying for. If the criteria is not met, then there are chances of the students being rejected from the admission process.

Students should have completed 10+2 (or equivalent) examinations from a recognized board.

Should have studied Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects in 10+2 (or equivalent) examinations.

General category students should have scored minimum 45% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination. For SC/ST/OBC candidates, the minimum aggregate marks is 40%.

BNYS Admissions

For BNYS admissions, the authorities will select students on the basis of their performance in the entrance examination. While most of the institutes consider NEET as the entrance examination, there are some which also conduct their own entrance tests. Along with the entrance test, the institutes may also conduct personal interviews. Both factors will be taken into consideration during admissions. During the personal interview, the students may be asked questions to understand their general aptitude. Selected students will be informed by the institutes about their admissions.

However, some institutes may also offer direct admissions on the basis of 10+2 (or equivalent) examination performance. These institutes do not conduct entrance tests and will consider the merit of the student for admissions.

Top BNYS Exams

National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) is one of the leading entrance examinations that a student has to be qualified to be eligible for admissions into BNYS courses offered by various institutions. This national level entrance examination has to be qualified by the students after which they can individually apply to the institute of their choice or register through Ayush UG counselling which is a common platform for BNYS admissions into the participating institutes. Through Ayush UG counselling, 15% of the seats will be allotted on the basis of AIl India Quota and 85% through state quota.

Other than NEET, there are many institutes which also offer admissions on the basis of their own entrance test. Students have to qualify the entrance examination and admissions will be done on the basis of their performance. Some of the known institutes which offer entrance exams for BNYS are:

Ras Bihari Bose Subharti University, Dehradun – While the entrance examination is conducted, candidates can also apply for admissions on the basis of their 10+2 merit.

Jayoti Vidyapeeth Women’s University (JVWU) – The institute conducts Joint National Entrance Examination (JNEE) which is held in online mode for candidates.

Maharishi Aurobindo Subharti Institute of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, Meerut – Admissions are done on the basis of Subharti University Entrance Test (SUET). However, vacant seats can be filled on the basis of 10+2 marks.

BNYS Salary

Naturopathy is a growing field and many students end up opening their own clinics after graduation. Self employed naturopaths may earn in the range of Rs.10,000 to 20,000 per month. More experienced ones may earn at a higher range at private sectors, their salary may be around Rs.1 lakh per month. Government also hires B.N.Y.S doctors and specialists and they may earn Rs. 15,600 to Rs. 39,100 with grade pay of Rs. 5400. Those students who immigrate to other countries to practice may have higher chances of earning more with their degree in BNYS
